How does the Welcome Wizard work?

You are here:

We created the Welcome Wizard so you can start using Drew within minutes.

When you install Drew and start SOLIDWORKS, you will see this in the Drew task pane:

Click Get Started to show the wizard:

Drew welcome wizard

Step 1: Download and install Drew

If you see this window, you have already completed step 1 🙂

Step 2: Activate a trial or a paid license

You can click Set up to request a trial license or to enter the serial code for a paid license. You can purchase your licenses on the product page.

Step 3: Create one or more Blueprints

Drew checks your SOLIDWORKS settings and finds all your Sheet Formats. These Sheet Formats are displayed on the left side of the window.

Blueprints (formerly known as Company Styles) are listed on the right side in the image below. A Blueprint is a set of Sheet Formats, combined with a few extra settings.

We advise you to create one or two Blueprints for your own company, plus one Blueprint for each customer that has their own set of sheet formats or templates.

Drag and drop

You can drag a folder or a single Sheet Format to the right to create Blueprints.

Drew will automatically combine similar file names into Blueprints.

The image below shows the Blueprints after we dragged the support_files folder to the right side of the screen.

We attempt to extract a useful name and the paper size from the file names. You can still change these values.

You can manually add or delete a Blueprint with the buttons at the top right.

You can also drag and drop Sheet Formats within Blueprints.

When you’re done, click Save.

That’s it, you’re done with the Welcome Wizard. The Blueprints are saved in a text file, you don’t need to select a location for this file.

How can I change the settings after the Welcome Wizard?

You can change any setting of a Blueprint in the settings menu. You can find the settings window via Tools > Drew.

If you don’t see this menu item, make sure the add-in is active.
