Custom properties

Custom properties are the best way to add metadata to SOLIDWORKS models. So we add them to every fastener file.

Custom properties in every file

Every part has the following custom properties:

  • Description: a human-readable, useful description of the fastener, its size, material and finish.
  • Designation: the name according to the standard
  • ISO: the active ISO standard
  • DIN withdrawn: whether the DIN standard has been withdrawn. See Supported ISO and DIN standards.
  • DIN: the active or withdrawn DIN standard
  • Material: the applied SOLIDWORKS material
  • Finish: name of the finish or coating
  • Mass: weight of the part. The unit depends on your SOLIDWORKS settings.
  • IsFastener: if set to one, SOLIDWORKS treats this model as a fastener and shows it as a solid part in a cross-section view.

Specialized custom properties

Threaded fasteners also get thread properties:

  • Pitch
  • Thread angle
  • Tap drill diameter
  • Preferred thread

Bolts and nuts get strength properties, when available. We also have special properties for retaining rings, lock washers, screws and set screws.
