What are Stock Levels?

You are here:

Lightning lets you define your favorite fasteners and group them into categories. We call these categories Stock Levels.

Most companies implicitly use three stock levels already:

  1. Avoid – for example fasteners with M7 threads.
  2. Ok to use – most fasteners that can easily be purchased.
  3. Common Stock – always in stock in the workshop. You want your engineers to use more of these.

Where to create Stock Levels

Lightning lets you define your stock levels in step 7 of the settings. Each stock level has four properties:

  • Score
  • Name
  • Color
  • Description

What the score means

  • A negative score means ‘avoid’
  • Zero is neutral.
  • A positive score means ‘recommended’

We sort stock levels and fasteners by score, from low to high.

You cannot delete the neutral stock level. If you don’t use the stock level feature, delete all other stock levels or set your fasteners to the neutral stock level. We will then hide the colored circles in the Add Fastener window.

Where to assign your Stock Levels

In step 8 of the settings, you assign these stock levels to your fasteners. You can assign a stock level to a folder, a file or a configuration. It’s all up to you.

To assign a stock level, select one or multiple rows in the treeview at the top, then choose a stock level at the bottom. The level you select at the bottom will be assigned to all selected rows.

How to filter your fasteners by stock level

When you select a fastener to add to your assembly, you can set a minimum stock level score. We hide all fasteners with a lower score. Check out How to use stock levels when selecting a fastener.
