How to purchase a license

You can purchase licenses for Lightning on the product page. FastSpring handles the payments and taxes and we handle the rest.

You will receive an email with a license code when the order is completed.

How to activate a license

Once you have purchased a license, follow these simple steps to activate the license.

When you purchase multiple license seats of a certain type, the license key is identical for all users.

Floating licenses

Floating licenses are network licenses. That means multiple users can use a single license, just not at the same time. Having three licenses means that three users can use Lightning at the same time. Read more about floating licenses.

– How to check out a license

When Lightning starts, it connects to our license server and checks out an available license. If you don’t need a license often, you can disable checking out a license on startup. You can do this in the license window.

– How to return a license

This license is returned when you close SOLIDWORKS, disable the add-in or return your license. If SOLIDWORKS crashes, your license will be returned to the pool automatically after few minutes.

PC-bound licenses

These are machine-locked licenses, which means they can be used on a single PC. This license type is a great default since most engineers use fasteners every day. Read more about PC-bound licenses.
