Batch import files into SOLIDWORKS

Import and save all files from a folder. Start ten drawings with one click.
Batch import STL and STEP files into SOLIDWORKS (and create drawings) - Drew feature highlight

See how it works

If you receive dozens or hundreds of files from your customers every day, you need a fast way to import them.

With Drew, you import up to ten files at once. Why ten? To prevent SOLIDWORKS from going on until it crashes.

After the import, we make it easy to create drawings for those models. Create one drawing at a time or start ten with a single click.

Import ten files at once

  1. Close all files so the import button becomes visible in the task pane
  2. Select a folder
  3. Apply one of the standard filters or create your own
  4. Pick your options to save and close the files
  5. Import one file at a time or ten at once

We only import the files when no SOLIDWORKS model with the same name exists.

Importing is only the first step

Once you imported your models, Drew can start a new drawing with one click. Even ten drawings at once. We can add these for you:

  • A 3D view
  • One or more 2D views (rotated for straight weldments)
  • A scaled flat pattern view for sheet metal parts
  • Outer dimensions (+ angle dimensions for weldments, thickness dimension for sheet metal)
  • A bill of materials (for assemblies)
  • A cut list (for weldments)

You can completely customize these drawings thanks to blueprints, our advanced drawing templates.

Start ten drawings at once

Easily make sure every assembly component has a drawing

Create up to ten drawings with a single click from either all files in a folder or all components in an assembly. After that, you can make quick changes and save or export in one click. Drew helps you double your drawing speed.

About assembly drawings

Add a flat pattern sheet

Add a flat pattern for e each sheet metal body in one click.

Every sheet metal part needs a flat pattern. But how you use them depends on whether you are an engineer or a fabricator. To help fabricators, Drew creates flat pattern sheets, sheets with a 1:1 flat pattern view, without a title block and with minimal extra markings.
